NEED advice!

I am NOT a decorator. There, disclamer made.....I am redoing my kitchen and I need some advice. I have painted the top part of the wall a very very pale green, almost a tan-ish color. In fact in some lights it is a tan color. The bottom of the wall is this khaki color. I did not plan on painting it at all, but I may have to. If you look at it with the white trim (BTW it is just primed right now) it is very washed out, so I am trying to warm it up a bit.
This is what I came up with. It's hard to get a good pic because the flash washes out the color and the sun is going down so no real sunlight here.

What do you think? Good. Bad. Ugly. Throw in the towel and just buy another paint already? I need HONEST opinions here. I am going for the old farmhouse distressed worn look. I don't like modern. I love old wood. Thoughts? Criticisms? HELP?

  1. The best that I can tell it looks good. It has that aged look. Use your own judgement, you know what you want! love you, mom

  3. Is this the only section of wall you have done? Is it possible to get a picture from farther back? Have you considered putting it on DIY rate my space site and ask for people's views there? Honestly the top color isn't bad but the bottom color I'm not crazy about but I can't think of what would go good besides a white on the bottom to make it look like wainscotting. Maybe someone on DIY would have a better idea of colors go well. Good luck and let us know how it goes!!

  4. I think the white trim is throwing me off.. I like both wall colors since you are wanting a farmhouse/exposed wood look, maybe you could do a more beige trim instead of white since you still have to paint them anyway. The brightness of it makes it look like the bottom half should be white-get what I mean? :)

  5. First - thanksfor visiting my site and following me ... I'm returning the follow! I like the color, but I'm with Military Spouse ... I'd use a deeper cream color for the trim. I love that old farm look ... and your accents will pull it all together. I'm sure you have great ideas for things to hang on the wall ... but I've found that those inexpensive metal/tin signs often times add a pop of color that makes a big difference! Love your site ... and that baby girl is adorable!

  6. I'm not a decorator either, but if you paint the trim in the kitchen a different color, will you need to trim the rooms adjoining? If so, that seems like a pain in the you know where. If not, I say go for it because I think that would help tie things together.

If you keep the white trim, maybe you could consider painting the trim that divides top and bottom to match the top or bottom color. Would that help? Of course, it will also depend on how much of the trim is going to show. If you have a table in front of most of it, it won't matter.
